Spare change?

So far, I have forgotten at least 5 times that plastic bags in the District of Columbia cost 5 cents. Everytime I ask for a bag, I get a look that just screams "you are killing the Earth so we are going to charge you". It's probably the weirdest thing that takes getting used to here...
